What is Alt Code Finder?

Alt Code Finder is your go-to tool for easily discovering and using special characters and symbols that aren't readily available on your standard keyboard. We know how frustrating it can be to hunt down that perfect degree symbol, copyright sign, or accented letter when you're in the middle of typing.

That's why we built this tool: to make finding Alt codes and special characters as simple as typing what you're thinking. So you don't have to memorize numbers or sift through complex character maps.

Features

  • Natural Language Search: Just describe the symbol you need (e.g., "heart symbol", "euro sign", "e with accent"), and our smart search engine will find it for you.
  • Instant Copy: Get both the Alt code sequence (like "Alt + 0169") and the symbol itself ("©") with a single click, ready to paste wherever you need it.
  • Browse by Category: Explore symbols organized into logical categories if you prefer to browse rather than search.
  • Recent Searches: Quickly access symbols you've looked up before from your convenient recent searches list in the navigation menu.

How to use Alt Codes on Windows

Alt codes are a specific way to type special characters on Windows computers using your keyboard's numeric keypad.

  1. Enable Num Lock - Make sure the "Num Lock" key on your keyboard is turned on. There's usually a small indicator light.
  2. Hold Down Alt - Press and hold the `Alt` key (usually on the left side of your spacebar).
  3. Type the Numbers - While holding `Alt`, type the numerical code using the **numeric keypad** on the right side of your keyboard (not the number keys above the letters).
  4. Release Alt - Let go of the `Alt` key, and the character will appear.

Don't have a numeric keypad?

Some keyboards don't have a dedicated numeric keypad. In this case, you might need to use the `Fn` (Function) key in combination with other keys that have small numbers printed on them (often the 'U', 'I', 'O', 'J', 'K', 'L', etc. keys). Consult your laptop's manual for specific instructions.
